Black Birth: Maternal & Infant Health Symposium

Friday, May 9 | Baird Center, 400 W. Wisconsin Ave.

Now in its fourth year, the Black Birth: Maternal & Infant Health Symposium, co-presented by GE HealthCare and the City of Milwaukee Health Department, is a transformative gathering dedicated to advancing health equity and addressing the critical disparities in Black maternal and infant health. This year’s symposium takes place at a pivotal moment when diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts face heightened challenges, underscoring the urgency to remain intentional and steadfast in the fight for health justice.

The Reality We Face:
Black women are three to four times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than their white counterparts, and Black infants in Milwaukee experience mortality rates nearly three times higher than white infants. These alarming statistics demand action, and the Black Birth Symposium serves as a catalyst for change.
